The
Den of Cin Begins Presenting First-Run Theatrical Films
on April 6 with "Zombie! Vs. Mardi Gras" and April 20
with "Freaks, Glam Gods and Rock Stars"
|
| |
| The Den of Cin, a visual and performing arts venue located
at the Two Boots entertainment complex in New York, will
begin presenting first-run theatrical films. The first
presentation will be the avant-garde horror/comedy "Zombie!
Vs. Mardi Gras," which will have its New York theatrical
premiere on Friday, April 6. |
| |
| "Zombie! Vs. Mardi Gras" has emerged as a cult favorite
on the film festival circuit, earning ovations and laughs
for its unique tribute to the New Orleans subculture and
its simultaneous send-ups of the films of Roger Corman
and Jean-Luc Godard. The film follows the unlikely teaming
of a deranged occultist and an evil go-go dancer, who
perform a Sumerian ritual which raises the living dead
with the mission of disrupting Mardi Gras. But in the
wacky hedonism and outlandish playfulness of Mardi Gras,
no one seems to notice zombies stalking the streets. A
documentary film crew, an overweight ninja and the Renaissance
astronomer Galileo (newly released from Purgatory) penetrate
the French Quarter with missions to put the living dead
back in their graves. |

| Phil Hall, the current programmer, says that
Den of Cin is a video projection avenue that seats about
50 people. It's currently very low-tech (using standard
VHS VCR technology), however, films that play there qualify
as first-run features and can get reviewed in the major
media (including the NY Times and Village Voice). He welcomes
filmmakers to contact him directly via e-mail: opencity@aol.com
or phone: 212 714-3757. |
